Join us for an immersive 10-day journey through Nepal that weaves together cultural exploration, Himalayan adventure, and meaningful time with the communities of Sunsar Maya. You'll visit all three of our centers, meet the children and women whose lives your support has touched, and experience firsthand the world we're building together.

What to Expect

Trip Highlights

Visit all three SuMa Centers — spend time at our after-school program, seeing creativity and learning come to life in our children's classrooms, and visit with the women of the literacy program as they continue their journey of building a life of independence and empowerment.
Lakeside Pokhara — unwind in one of Nepal's most beloved cities, with sweeping views of the Annapurna range reflected in Phewa Lake. Explore the old bazaar, rent a bike, stroll the lakeside promenade, or simply breathe in the Himalayan air before your adventure begins.
Explore ancient Kathmandu — walk through Durbar Square, Boudhanath Stupa, Swayambhunath, and Patan, UNESCO heritage sites alive with living culture.
Himalayan sunrise at Poon Hill — hike to 3,210m before dawn for a breathtaking panorama of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and Machhapuchhre.
Nepali food & cultural evenings — welcome dinner with traditional dance, dal bhat and momos, and a Tharu cultural performance in Chitwan.
Jungle safari in Chitwan — canoe jungle rivers, visit the Elephant Breeding Center, and track wildlife on a jeep safari through one of Asia's great national parks.

The first five days are shared by all travelers — cultural exploration, three SuMa Center visits, and a short flight to Pokhara.

Arrival in Kathmandu & Heritage Walk
Arrive in Kathmandu, warmly welcomed and transferred to your hotel. Begin with a guided heritage walk through Kathmandu Durbar Square — ancient temples, courtyards, and the historic royal palace. In the evening, a welcome Nepali dinner with traditional cultural dance performance.

Boudhanath Stupa & SuMa Center Jorpati
Visit the sacred Boudhanath Stupa, one of the largest in the world and a center of Tibetan Buddhism. In the afternoon, visit the Sunsar Maya Center in Jorpati to engage with children in their after-school program.

Swayambhunath & SuMa Center Machhegaon
Visit Swayambhunath, the ancient hilltop stupa with panoramic valley views. In the afternoon, visit the Sunsar Maya Center in Machhegaon for after-school and women's literacy programs in this peaceful hilltop village.

Join a literacy class at 11:00 AM at the SuMa Center in Sanagaon, then explore Patan Durbar Square — a masterpiece of Newari architecture and craftsmanship.

Fly to Pokhara
A short flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara. Upon arrival, relax and enjoy the peaceful lakeside atmosphere before your Himalayan adventure begins.

From Day 6 onwards, select the experience that calls to you — high-altitude trekking through the Annapurna region or a wildlife safari in Chitwan National Park.

Drive to Ulleri & Trek to Ghorepani
Drive from Pokhara to Ulleri via Nayapul, then trek through charming villages, terraced fields, and rhododendron forests to Ghorepani.

Poon Hill Sunrise & Trek to Tadapani
Early morning hike to Poon Hill (3,210m) for a spectacular sunrise over Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and Machhapuchhre. Trek onward to Tadapani (2,630m).

Trek to Ghandruk & Drive to Pokhara
Trek down to Ghandruk, a traditional Gurung village of stone houses and deep cultural richness. After lunch, drive back to Pokhara.

This immersive tour includes climbing in and out of vans; walking on steep inclines, steps, and uneven terrain. The trekking option involves moderate-to-strenuous hiking at altitude. To ensure your safety and enjoyment, please be certain you can manage these physical demands before registering.

Terms & Conditions

Tour Operator

All in-country travel logistics, trekking arrangements, Chitwan safari activities, and ground transportation are managed by Nepal Social Treks, our trusted local partner with extensive experience operating in Nepal. Sunsar Maya coordinates the program in partnership with Nepal Social Treks, who are responsible for the quality and safety of all tour operations on the ground.

Deposit & Payment

A non-refundable deposit of $500 USD per person is due by September 15th to reserve your place. The full balance is due by January 15th, 2027. Payments may be made by check payable to Sunsar Maya Inc. or by credit card through our secure payment portal.

Cancellation Policy

The $500 deposit is non-refundable under all circumstances. Cancellations made more than 90 days before departure will receive a full refund of any balance paid beyond the deposit. If we are able to fill your place from the waitlist, we will refund the full amount paid, including the deposit. Cancellations within 90 days of departure are non-refundable. Sunsar Maya strongly recommends purchasing travel insurance.

Trip Changes & Cancellation by Operator

Sunsar Maya reserves the right to modify itinerary details due to weather, safety, local conditions, or other circumstances beyond our control. In the unlikely event that Sunsar Maya cancels the trip, participants will receive a full refund of all payments made. Sunsar Maya is not responsible for non-refundable airfare or other personal travel expenses.

Travel Insurance

All participants are strongly encouraged to purchase comprehensive travel insurance covering trip cancellation, medical emergencies, evacuation, and lost baggage. Sunsar Maya does not provide travel insurance and is not liable for any costs arising from illness, injury, delay, or other unforeseen circumstances during travel.

Health & Fitness

Participants should be in good general health and able to walk on uneven terrain for extended periods. The trekking option involves moderate-to-strenuous hiking at altitude. Please consult your physician before registering if you have any medical conditions. Sunsar Maya reserves the right to decline registration if a participant's health may pose a risk to themselves or the group.

Liability & Conduct

By registering, participants agree to release Sunsar Maya, its staff, board members, and partners from liability for any injury, loss, or damage arising during the trip. All participants are expected to treat staff, community members, and fellow travelers with respect. Sunsar Maya reserves the right to remove any participant whose conduct is deemed inappropriate, without refund.
