Happy World Teachers’ Day!
At Sunsar Maya, we’re fortunate to have 33 amazing teachers on our team. And today, World Teachers’ Day, we want to celebrate them for the energy, care and creativity they bring to our 500 students—150 women in the morning and 350 children in the afternoon—each day.
We asked some of our SuMa teachers what teaching means to them:
Nearly all of our wonderful teachers from all three SuMa sites! 💛

“Feeling truly proud and deeply grateful for this beautiful journey. Four years ago, I started my first job at Sunsar Maya as a teacher, and today, being entrusted with the responsibility of Head Teacher feels incredibly special. Working with children and women has given me the happiness that comes straight from my heart, while teaching them has also given me countless opportunities to learn, grow, and discover myself. These five years have shaped me both personally and professionally, and I am genuinely thankful for every lesson, every experience, every opportunity, and every person who has been a part of this journey. From my heart, thank you for giving me a journey I will always be grateful for.” - Barina
“As I support my students in their learning, I also learn something new from their questions, ideas, and experiences. My time here has helped me become more confident, patient, and comfortable in expressing my thoughts. “I encourage the children and adults to observe, explore, ask questions, and share their ideas while teaching. I [have] learned that children learn better when they are actively involved in practical activities. This experience helped me improve my teaching and understand how practical activities can make learning more interesting and meaningful for children. I am grateful to Sunsar Maya for giving me this opportunity to learn and grow as a teacher.” - Ekta
“Being a teacher at Sunsar Maya has been a meaningful five-year journey. In the beginning, I faced difficulties, especially feeling nervous while teaching and communicating with women older than me. With support and experience, I gradually became more confident. I am grateful to Sunsar Maya for helping me learn, grow, and make a positive difference.” - Chanda

Seeing my students learn and achieve their goals brings joy to me. Working with women also inspires me a lot. I see their dedication, courage to learn and improve their lives. I feel grateful to SuMa, where I can share my knowledge, learn from elderly women and contribute to build brighter futures of young minds.” - Ranjita
“Teaching has been my dream from the very beginning. I love helping children and women learn, but what makes it even more significant is that I also learn something from them every day. Working with women has touched me deeply and shown me that learning has no age or limits, despite life’s many responsiblities. The courage and enthusiasm for learning shown by the children and women remind me why I chose to become a teacher. Witnessing them grow and gain confidence fills me with pride and joy.” -Ranjana
